The Fundamental Shift: The Experience That Started Everything

June 30, 2026

People assume the name is marketing. A confident phrase for a coaching brand. It isn’t. Fundamental Shift® is the name of something that actually happened to me, and the company exists because of it.

The first part of my life ran one direction, and it was down. Abuse before I was old enough to understand it. Addiction that took the wheel. A stretch with no address and no plan for getting one. Then cancer, on top of all of it. If you’d read the file and called the ending, you would not have called this one.

Then, with no warning and no effort on my part, the whole thing turned.

It wasn’t a good day or a burst of motivation. The self I’d been my entire life stopped being the thing I looked out from. Awareness came forward instead. Presence, wisdom arriving faster than I could think, a clear view of the person I’d always taken for granted as simply me. For the first time I could see my own identity from the outside: the beliefs, the limits, the rules about what was possible that I’d mistaken for reality. And I could see they were movable. They let go.

That’s the Fundamental Shift. Whoever I’d been my whole life was no longer the one living it.

Here’s the part people most want to hear, because it’s the part they’re afraid isn’t real. It happened fast, and the outside of my life moved almost as fast as the inside. The addiction lost its authority over me. The downward line reversed and kept climbing. I became the youngest vice president my company had, with a career that, from a distance, looked like the whole story. It wasn’t. The career was the smallest thing the shift gave me. But the speed was real, and it’s worth saying plainly: this kind of change doesn’t have to take years.

What it left me with was a question. If it could happen to me by accident, could it happen on purpose? Could it be handed to someone else?

I’ve spent more than twenty years taking that one experience apart to find out. That work is Identity Shifting®, the method. It’s the operational side of what hit me all at once: learning to step outside the self you take for granted and treat it as something you can change, on purpose, without waiting for a crisis to do it for you. The Fundamental Shift is the whole of it. Identity Shifting is the part you can practice. (The fuller arc of how I got here lives on the about page.)

I want to be precise about what this is not, because the words sit near a lot of noise. This isn’t manifestation. It isn’t holding a feeling until the universe delivers, or picturing a result hard enough to summon it. Nothing was summoned. Something was seen, and seeing it changed the one doing the looking.

You probably came here wanting to improve. Hold onto that. I’d add one thing to it. The version of you that has to work at improving and the version that improves without trying are two different people, and you can change which one you are. Do that first, and improvement stops being something you manage. It becomes what the new person does on their own. That’s what the shift gave me, and it’s the whole reason I do this: to make it available on purpose.
