Wrap your head around this…
Know what marketing really is?
Influence and persuasion.
Which means that if you’re someone on a mission to help other people, you have a moral obligation to get the word out.
That’s all it is.
…and the money will follow.
Technology makes us so much more connected than we’ve ever been before.
Which means if you get how online marketing works and have trained yourself to have what I call a “marketing habit,” you can leverage the internet to help a lot more people. And make more money while you’re at it.
I know this for sure because I’ve lived it. And I want to show you how to do it, too.
The truth is, marketing has always come naturally to me. I’ve been persuading and influencing other people throughout my career. Before that, even. I was the kind of kid who was always talking his parents into something. Classic leadership and persuasion skills. For me, that’s familiar territory.
But what I didn’t always know was how to do that online.
Flash back: I was working in an IT firm here in Philadelphia. Other execs and colleagues were coming to me on a regular basis for career and personal advice.
Here’s what dawned on me:
- I had a message.
- I kept saying the same things, over and over again.
- I wanted to find a way for my message to reach more people – from one to many.
- Since my message could really help people, sharing it was a moral obligation.
So in 2005, I started a weekly podcast called Fundamental Shift, to teach more people what I was sharing one-on-one. This would grow to thousands of subscribers, and hundreds of thousands of downloads.
That’s when I started getting really curious about the power of leveraging technology.
But how could that make money?
I wish I could tell you I was an overnight success. But back then, I didn’t know much about running a business or making money as an entrepreneur. I didn’t know beans about online marketing. I just knew I was carrying a helpful message, and that I needed to share it with a bigger crowd.
That motivated me to get to the bottom of making money online. And to systematize everything I learned to make it easier for others to do it, too.
As it happened, some of the top internet marketers out there became my executive coaching clients. They sought me out to get a handle on the beliefs that were gumming up their businesses and personal lives. Which we certainly did.
But this also gave me a VIP front-row seat to the online marketing game. And I not only learned how to play the game, I learned how to win.
Starting a member forum and selling 200 spots in a day. Building and growing a list from scratch. Adding tens of thousands to another, bigger list. Huge launches. Full-on integrated campaigns. I’ve seen it. I’ve done it. I’ve lived it. And I’m here to tell you, it’s not as complicated as you think.
Sure, I met with my share of disappointments and fumbles. I’ve lived through all the standard rookie mistakes of online marketing. Taking my eye off the ball. Acting without a plan. Abandoning my marketing habit when things are gangbusters, which shot me in the foot when I could use the business.
Which is why I now train and coach business owners how to create a “marketing habit,” using the systems I’ve developed for brand and messaging, selling online, building your house mailing list, managing a referral program, nailing your social media, and leveraging online marketing to make more money with less work.
